Hey guys, if you’re new to my blog and have no idea who I am just know that I’m obsessed with the genre historical fantasy fictions within novels. It’s my favourite kinds of books to read and always sparks my interest in a book shop due to their exciting blurbs. It was hard for me to do, but I’ve managed to pick out 3 of my all time favourite books from this genre and try and persuade you all into reading some haha. So here goes my top 3 historical fantasy fiction novels of all time..
Enchantee by Gita Trelease
All my friends know how much I LOVE this book due to how many times I recommend it, as I cannot recommend it enough! Not only is it my favourite within this genre, it’s my favourite all time book too!
Its set in 1789 in Paris during the French revolution. When a young girl called Camille loses her parents, she’s left to provide for her younger sister and drunken older brother and coming from a family that has nothing, she has no choice but to turn to magic as a way of survival. From starting by turning scrap metals into coins to cheating her way in the big shots of gambling, magic plays a huge part in Camille’s life. We see the theme of love play a big part and a draw is made between two men fighting for Camille’s heart. There’s plot twists throughout and it always keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting to read more. It is beautifully written and includes a handful of french words, where a glossary of the meanings are found at the back to help you out. It all adds to the effect of being in Paris and it is so well written you feel like you’ve lived the story and experienced it yourself.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
The Night Circus is based in the 1800’s and all about the theme of a magical circus. The story line is of a young girl who gets brought up using magic and spends her childhood practising for a future challenge her father has set her up too. It shows themes of desperation, hope and wonderment and makes it feel as though you’re there watching the scenes take place in real life. The plot is unique and keeps you continuously turning the page wanting to know more. It is beautifully written and will make you want to read more from the author once you’ve finished.
The Ghost Tree by Barbara Erskine
Throughout the book we see into the thoughts of numerous characters. After hearing the beginning of Thomas’ story we are transported into the present day to read all about Ruth’s life. After Ruth’s father recently passing away she heads up to his house in Edinburgh to collect his belongings only to discover that someone had been living with him throughout the last weeks of his life that her father has now allegedly changed his will so that this man ‘Timothy’ is now the new owner of his house and all of Ruth’s father’s money and belongings are no longer getting passed down to her. It is a VERY great read and definitely has still stayed fresh in my memory to this day despite the fact I read it months ago.
So, those are my top 3 historical fantasy fiction novels, I hope you all enjoyed this post. Please let me know in the comments what your favourite genre is and what books you’d recommend? Hope you all have a great weekend!
